Hospital Reports 22 Passengers Treated for Spinal Injuries, 6 for Head Trauma Following Flight SQ321 Incident

Spine Injury

BANGKOK – Following a severe turbulence incident on board a Singapore Airlines flight, twenty individuals are now in intensive care after the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok on May 21. The passengers and crew were on their way to Singapore when they experienced the unexpected event over the airspace of Myanmar.

According to Dr. Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, director of Bangkok’s Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, the number of patients in intensive care has not changed since their admission. Dr. Adinun emphasized the critical yet stable condition of those admitted, noting the absence of any life-threatening cases at the moment.

Out of the 40 passengers and crew members still receiving medical attention, 22 are suffering from spinal cord injuries, while six others are being treated for brain and skull trauma. Dr. Adinun highlighted the ages of the affected, with the eldest being an 83-year-old and the youngest, a two-year-old child who incurred a concussion.

Although initially reporting that 41 individuals were hospitalized, Dr. Adinun corrected the statement to reflect the discharge of one patient. The nationalities of the injured include ten British, nine Australian, seven Malaysian, and four Philippine citizens.

No comprehensive details were provided on the breakdown of injured passengers versus crew members under medical care.
