A tragic incident occurred last Thursday at a community pool located in Old Orchard Park, Frisco, Texas, when a 13-year-old boy suffered a severe spinal injury after diving into shallow water while fleeing from a wasp. Semyon Williams Jr., known as SJ, was enjoying a day at the pool when the situation escalated into a life-altering accident.
According to family statements, SJ dove into the shallow end of the pool in a panic. Witnesses describe a frantic scene where SJ’s grandfather, Louis Camper, recounted how his grandson jumped into the water without assessing the depth. “He just recalls hitting his head and indicated that it felt as if his arms were not part of his body because he couldn’t feel them,” said Camper.
Initially, SJ’s friend assumed he was joking when he saw him floating face down. It was only when he received no response that the urgency of the situation became clear. “He turns him over, and that’s when he’s asking if he is playing. SJ was able to speak, but he was panicking, exclaiming, ‘I can’t feel anything. Help me!'” described his mother, Anya Camper.
A good Samaritan nearby rushed to the scene to provide comfort to SJ while others called emergency services. Amid the chaos, another child alerted Anya, who frantically rushed to the pool upon hearing that her son had sustained a serious injury.
