New Delhi, July 7 – Neurosurgeons have emphasized the critical importance of immediate action and proper management for spinal cord injuries, highlighting that timely interventions are key to minimizing long-term disability and optimizing patient recovery. In a recent discussion, experts stressed the need for enhanced efforts from medical professionals and policymakers to ensure that patients receive the necessary and timely treatment to improve their rehabilitation prospects and functional restoration.
Road accidents are cited as a primary contributor to spinal injuries, which are a leading cause of disability. The delay and inadequacy in medical management are noted to be significant factors contributing to the irreversible consequences of spinal injuries. As such, the medical community is advocating for a more proactive approach to the initial management of spinal injuries, including proper immobilization, traction, and surgical methods when required, to prevent further deterioration and enhance the chance of recovery.
Highlighting the urgency of the condition, Dr. Manish Vaish, Senior Director of Neurosurgery at the Max Super Speciality Hospital in Vaishali, underscored the vital nature of immediate and appropriate response in the management of spinal injuries. He noted that understanding the significance of treatments is crucial for medical personnel in charge of care to reduce the likelihood of long-term impairment.
Dr. Yashpal Singh Bundela of Sushrut Brain and Spine, Delhi, reinforced this perspective by pointing out that every minute counts when dealing with spinal cord injuries.
